Swansea University - A world-class university
Swansea University is a research-led university that has been making a difference since 1920. The University community thrives on exploration and discovery, and offers the right balance of excellent teaching and research, matched by an enviable quality of life.
Set in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the breathtaking Gower Peninsula, the University's location is captivating. With 15,921 students and 2,510 staff, Swansea's multicultural campus community provides a global perspective and opportunities to gain skills that last a lifetime.
The University's mission statement states that:
"Swansea University will provide an environment of research excellence, with research being undertaken that is world-leading and internationally recognised, and that informs all other activities at the University.
Swansea will deliver an outstanding student experience, with teaching of the highest quality that produces graduates equipped for distinguished personal and professional achievement.
The University community will be a powerhouse for economic growth in the regional economy, and will greatly enrich the community and cultural life of Wales. It will contribute to the health, leisure, and wellbeing of citizens in South West Wales and beyond."
The University is planning an ambitious campus expansion and development programme that will enable it to double in size and further enhance the student experience.
The new Science and Innovation Campus – due for completion in 2015 - will enable the University to ‘break out' of its current estate constraints, providing space for growth and facilitating increased collaboration with industry. It will deliver a next generation ‘Science Park', co-locating University and industry researchers, students and academics – not only on the same site, but using the same laboratories and facilities. This model can be seen to be operating successfully on the Singleton Campus through the Institute of Life Science.
The creation of a Science and Innovation Campus goes hand-in-hand with the University's plans to transform the existing Singleton Park Campus, creating space for a dramatic transformation which will greatly enhance the student experience across both sites.
The University has now entered the third phase of its Strategic Directions programme, 2012-2017, which aims to transform Swansea into a research intensive university in the UK top 30.
