About us
At the depth of the last economic depression in 1971, Paul Russell left the world of corporate Architecture in Central London to set up Russell Associates in Greenwich. The practice aimed to bring the strong professional standards learnt there into local architecture. This proved to be a successful approach and after a year Russell Associates moved into offices in Greenwich. The practice grew to 10 staff, and is now in its 22nd year. In spite of the difficult economic climate, Russell Associates good reputation and strong position in the market place means that we have more than held our own.
The strap line proclaims Architecture : Interiors : Planning. The principal business is architecture but it is impossible to practice architecture without a thorough knowledge of planning, and Russell Associates has an extremely good reputation for obtaining excellent consents in difficult circumstance or on difficult sites.
Similarly we recognise the importance of the interior layout and spaces of a building as well as the more obvious expression of the exterior elevations. We see interior architecture as an integral part of any building but can also extend this to provide a full interior design services.
Domestic work includes alterations and extensions, plus a significant number of major refurbishments of existing houses and conversions, for example of churches into homes. Russell Associates have also worked on a number of substantial new houses and infill schemes with 3 -12 houses/flats.
Commercial work includes work on pubs, restaurants and hotels, student housing, and increasingly mixed use schemes with flats above shops, doctors and dentists. Additionally there have been schemes for live/work units, offices, industrial warehousing, nursing homes and a school library.
Russell Associates work extensively in the London Boroughs of Greenwich, Lewisham and Bexley, and have an ever increasing workload in the surrounding boroughs of Bromley Southwark, Lambeth, and North Kent. Projects include new build, refurbishment and restoration. We have worked on a large number of Listed Buildings and in Conservation Areas, and continue to happily do so, but increasingly are moving the practice towards contemporary architecture and integration of environmental sustainability.
Russell Associates official charity is Shelter, the charity for the homeless. We have a scheme where for the initial consultation or appraisal of a site or project, Russell Associates are always prepared to give an hour in exchange for a contribution to Shelter.
