Job Details

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has a commitment to provide the best housing services possible for their residents and tenants with a clear vision and plan on how to deliver this.
Key priorities of this vision for residents are inclusive of:
• Ensuring our residents feel positively involved in the design and delivery of housing services.
• To create good quality homes and neighbourhoods which are energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.
• To help residents who need extra support to live independently in their homes for as long as possible.
As part of this vision the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are expanding their Property Services team and are now looking for an experienced Principal Housing Maintenance Surveyor to join the team to help deliver the best possible service for their residents.
As the successful Principal Surveyor, you will provide a key leadership role in the team. The primary function will be to manage a team of surveyors providing essential technical support to the responsive repairs team and across Property Services.
You will support the Quality Assurance and Operations Managers by overseeing delivery of a range of technical surveying functions. These include pre and post-inspections of works including quality and cost checks, asbestos management surveys, CDM regulation and void specification checks.
In addition to the core duties, you will manage complex cases and oversee disrepair and other litigation cases and work closely with legal services and solicitors to limit the council's liability.
There will also be a need to co-operate closely with other departments in the council to provide a joined-up service for the residents. The effective management of complaints and casework is crucial to guarantee the high performance of the service and the provision of advice to colleagues across housing management.
You must be a qualified Building Surveyor with experience of managing a team of Maintenance Surveyors. Chartership will enhance your application, but it is not an essential requirement of this job. You need to be able to demonstrate your experience of managing staff, contract tender / awarding, excellent report writing skills and good overall IT proficiency. The job will require you to deal with both internal and external stakeholders, so you must be able to demonstrate this skill too. In addition, you will need to have experience of dealing with residents as a senior person as you will be the point of escalations for the council's residents.
All the standard local government benefits apply with more details on the Benefits tab for your perusal.
