Chartered Principal or Associate Structural Engineer, based in Manchester

Your new company
Your new company is a dynamic Civil & Structural Engineering Consultancy providing innovative, sustainable and forward-thinking solutions to construction problems, with the client service the main emphasis every time. With 15 years' of industry presence, they currently have three UK offices; Manchester, Leeds and London and around 50 employees.

The customer focused approach allows your new company to generate 80% of their work through repeat business, with a Director-led approach to engineering.

The sectors they are involved with are wide ranging between £250,000 - £100m project value and include residential, commercial, retail, warehousing, extra care, hotel & leisure, healthcare, food processing and listed buildings.

Your new role
You will be joining the business as a Principal or Associate Structural Engineer, and tasked with leading the structural team from a technical perspective, made up of 5 engineers and technicians. You will play a key role in further establishing and leading a new team based in Manchester and will be integral to growing our portfolio of projects within the region.

Overall responsibility for project delivery and liasing with project managers on the client-side will be key elements of your role with financial and commercial monitoring of projects being equally important. Maintaining high technical quality of your teams work is a daily objective and maintaining the current strong relationships your company has developed, as well as generating new business will also be valued.

Becoming a Director is a real possibility if you continue to impress and fulfil your role within the company. With this comes the commercial opportunity including fee proposals and the continuous generation of the Manchester business. Looking to grow the office to 10 in the next 12 months and towards 20 in the following years, you're potential influence on further developing the office represents enormous opportunity.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be a Chartered Member of either the ICE or IStructE and hold a relevant professional degree, most likely Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and have spent a minimum of 5 years as a Senior Engineer. From a technical standpoint, the software experience most essential is AutoCAD, Tekla Tedds and/or Tekla Structural Designer. Other relevant structural design software would be useful.

Important characteristic that you will need to succeed are an analytical and detailed approach to design. Strong communication skills are needed, with the ability to negotiate and present also highly valued. Detailed knowledge and understanding of Building Information Modelling principles and the passion to build an ambitious team are also needed.

What you'll get in return
In return you will receive a highly competitive salary in line with your previous experience, ranging between £50,000 for Principal to £65,000 for Associate Director. There is an annual salary review in the new year which would see your salary continuously grow throughout your development. During this discussion, and annual bonus capped at a months salary will be on the table, somewhat dependant on the companies financial success.
