Estimator - Construction - Negotiable Salary

Your new company
Specialist building contractor who operate across East Anglia and Lincolnshire working on Historical Buildings as well as commercial contracts. They pride themselves on being a people centric business where they support and develop staff to create an enjoyable working environment.

Your new role
Due to continued growth they are now looking for an Estimator to join their commercial team, you will be required to prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analysing important metrics. Provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions. Provide detailed reports so that informed decisions can be made that enhance profitability and growth

Main duties of the role:

  • Research materials, equipment, transport and labour costs
  • Collect quotes from material suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Support the planning of jobs including timescales
  • Assess the level of risk for all aspects of each project
  • Analyse data, rates and prices as appropriate
  • Supporting bids for new contracts by providing summaries of costs as well as preparation and submission of quotations
  • Monitor relevant stages of a project to ensure costs and kept in line with forecasts
  • Ensure a good understanding of each project and its requirements
  • Determine key variables for costs and other estimates
  • Gather first-hand information from sites and other venues
  • Conduct research to obtain data on labour costs, materials production times etc
  • Use appropriate software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting
  • Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors
  • Perform risk analysis
  • Create and submit estimate reports for the appropriate team member
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provide consultation on planning - schedules, resources etc



What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience as an estimator or similar position
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles
  • In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas
  • Strong maths and IT skills, including proficiency in relevant software
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to be thorough, reliable and have an eye for detail
