Your new company
This client is a well established Housing Association and form part of the G15. The offer general needs homes, and in addition a wide range of housing, including key worker, shared ownership and specialist accommodation including a women's refuge, housing for people with learning and physical disabilities, and a hostel for ex-offenders.

Due to legislative changes to the disrepair laws in 2020, this housing association formed a team to manage the disrepair cases. They are growing the team further, however, due to an increased demand in disrepair cases, they need a disrepair surveyor to come in and assist the team with the current workload, this will be on a fixed term contract basis for 12 months.

Your new role
To ensure the effective management and delivery of compliance related repairs including Environmental Health Orders and legal disrepair cases. Ensure that compliance repairs are planned and delivered to meet legislative and statutory requirements, to maximise efficiencies and provide value for money. To ensure repairs achieve high customer satisfaction and excellent quality of work.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage casework by liaising with staff internal and external parties, including residents, surveyors, solicitors, local authorities, and Councillors/MPs.
  • Collate all necessary documentation to facilitate decision making in line with relevant policies, procedures, statutory or regulatory guidance and keep accurate, up to date records of actions taken to assist in case management and reporting requirements.
  • To represent the business at Court when required.
  • Personal responsibility for undertaking quality inspections of compliance repairs including EHO and disrepair cases, defining a clear scope and specification of work, including conducting pre-inspections to establish and specify the full scope of work and post-inspection to ensure quality of work and customer satisfaction.
  • To be familiar with industry standards for the specific performance of the duties of this role including Schedule of Rates, operational regulatory framework, health & safety (including asbestos).
  • Ensure compliance with and promotion of the organisation's Health & Safety policy and legislation ensuring all personal risk assessments completed/reviewed and relevant action taken to mitigate risk
  • Support the process of service reviews/improvement plans and contribute to the business plans of the Repairs & Maintenance Department
  • Perform any other duties as may be requested by your line manager


What you'll need to succeed
In order to be considered for this role you will need to have

  • A recognised degree level qualification in Building Surveying (RICS or CIOB)
  • Significant knowledge of building construction, building standards, planning regulations, regulatory standards, leasehold legislation, health & safety, and other legislation relevant to asset management
  • Detailed knowledge of construction contracts and their effective administration, commercial understanding of value for money drivers in construction
  • Thorough understanding of the Social Housing Sector and Landlord Compliance and servicing requirements
  • Previous experience of successfully delivering a similar role within another organisation
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to liaise effectively with staff, residents, stakeholders, contractors, and consultants
  • Demonstrable negotiating and influencing skills that create additional value
  • Ability to prioritise a high workload with competing demands in a changing environment, be proactive and take the initiative in problem solving.


What you'll get in return
The successful candidate can expect a salary of up to £50k for the 12 month fixed term.
