The Asbestos Safety Advisor supports the Asbestos Safety Manager and Senior Asbestos Safety Advisor in ensuring that the University Estate complies with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and other relevant legislation relating to the control and management of asbestos.  They will work within the Estates Operations Statutory Compliance team and in close collaboration with the University's Safety Office to realise the aims and objectives of the University's Asbestos Safety Policy and to provide specialist advice on asbestos safety matters.

They will work collaboratively to control and manage the University's Asbestos Register, ensuring quality control, maintaining up to date data and providing advice on interpretation of the data.

The Asbestos Safety Advisor provides liaison and support on all matters relating to the management of asbestos across the University estate, including implementation of an Asbestos Management Plan, audit of asbestos information for completeness and quality, maintaining the University's central asbestos register, and managing a programme of periodic management and re-inspection surveys.  They will provide asbestos awareness training and will provide professional advice and assistance to Faculties, Schools, Departments and Institutions in the development and implementation of local asbestos management plans.  They will also provide advice and guidance to Estates Division on asbestos matters in relation to proposed works to existing buildings.

The individual will oversee embedded asbestos technicians and external specialist consultants and contractors providing asbestos related services.  They will ensure the effective contract management of externally delivered services and will provide management information for Estate Operations leadership team and University safety committees.

The Statutory Compliance Lead may also from time to time require the role holder to perform other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
