Queen's University Belfast are working in partnership with Hays Specialist Recruitment to appoint a number of new key strategic roles within their Estates Directorate team including Estates Manager (Sustainable Construction).
This is an exciting time to join Queen's as they embark on their Strategy 2030 which sets out the University's ambition for the next 10 years. To support this, the Estates Directorate has developed an ambitious Estate Strategy and capital projects masterplan with a wide variety of new build, major refurbishment and estate re-organisation plans.
The Estate Strategy also includes three significant major capital projects as part of the BRCD across manufacturing, digital innovation and clinical healthcare which are currently in the early stages of Design.

Your new role
Queen's are recruiting a permanent Estates Manager, based on University Campus, where you will provide specialist sustainability expertise to ensure the successful delivery of the University's Estate Strategy and Corporate Plan, and the delivery of the University's City Deal Projects.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join the Estates Directorate team at Queen's University Belfast as they embark on their next phase of development.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you will play a key role in developing and delivering the University's pathway to Net Zero, leading on embedding sustainability and climate resilience into the University's construction, refurbishment and maintenance activities.
As the specialist sustainability expert, you will ensure the successful delivery of the University's Net Zero Strategy, Estate Strategy and Corporate Plan.
You will manage, monitor and report on a broad programme of work, involving strategy and policy development, stakeholder engagement and collaborative project work.

What you'll need to succeed
To be eligible for this vacancy you must meet the following essential criteria:
A degree and/or post graduate qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or construction related discipline and:

  • At least three years recent (including within last 5 years) relevant relevant construction management experience
  • Relevant experience of applying environmental standards to projects e.g. BREEAM and Passivhaus
  • Relevant experience of working on the sustainability profile of a range of construction projects
  • Relevant experience of engaging and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to achieve a desired outcome
  • Evidence of successful management of project budgets and resources.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations in NI in relation to low carbon / sustainable design and construction.
