Head of Housing

Working for: Centre for Policy Studies

Job Details

The Centre for Policy Studies, the leading centre-right think tank, is looking for an expert to lead our work on housing and planning, as one of our core policy priorities. In recent years the CPS has set the agenda on housing, planning, home ownership and mortgage market reform, with a stream of hugely impactful reports. We want to build on that success at a time when solving the housing crisis and boosting home ownership is more crucial than ever.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Producing a stream of high-quality, highly impactful reports analysing the issues in the housing market and proposing solutions
  • Managing relationships with policy experts in government and the private sector, as well as attracting funding for the CPS’s housing work
  • Overseeing public and private events and roundtables on relevant issues
  • Promoting the CPS’s work in the media and providing expert commentary on housing, planning and home ownership issues as appropriate

Required experience and skills:

  • Significant experience of developing and analysing housing policy
  • The ability to produce high-quality written output and comfort and familiarity with relevant statistics and data
  • Strong relationship management and experience in dealing with key stakeholders, as well as colleagues on our policy team
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Sympathy with the values and objectives of the Centre for Policy Studies

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience of policy development in government, academia or private sector
  • Expertise with data and analysis, in particular of core housing datasets
  • Strong familiarity with the UK housing debate
  • Experience of managing junior team members and collaborating on projects
