An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly-motivated individual with preferably substantial Building Regulations experience, to join our dynamic, highly performing Building Control Team. This post is career progressive and we will ensure that you gain valuable building control experience across the entire spectrum of small, medium and large complex construction projects.

The Brighton & Hove Building Control Service is under a new manager we will be looking to invest in the service to enable us to embrace change and ensure there is additional experience in the Team, while also future proofing the team with opportunities for all levels.

About the role

The successful candidate will be working closely with the other Principal and Senior Officers to deliver a high quality service to clients and ensure that the Council’s statutory function is effectively discharged.

You will enjoy stimulating and varied work in this role – no two days are the same. You will have the chance to work in a supportive working environment with opportunities for personal development and professional growth. As a Chartered (or working towards) professional (RICS, CABE, CIOB), you should bring construction industry experience and knowledge of Building Control relating to a wide breadth of buildings, including high rise.

You will play an integral role in making pragmatic and value decisions on compliance with Building Regulations. You will be keen to provide an excellent customer service, driving forward new schemes within the city and effectively turning our vision into reality. Ideally you will be working towards or have achieved the LABC Fire Safety Competent person’s accreditation.

You will contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective Building Control service for the City including taking decisions of allocated Building Regulation applications, Notices and matters allocated by the Building Control Manager, enabling the delivery of quality developments in line with legislation, industry performance guidelines and internal targets.

You will be able to do work largely at home whilst, as part of the COVID 19 recovery, you will be able to work at our base in Hove Town Hall on agreed days.
