Estimator, assistant estimator, cost consultant for construction sector permanent job in Sussex

This is an opportunity for an experienced Estimator to join the team of a Sussex based main contractor. With a diverse and exciting portfolio of projects, from £1m - £8m, they are recruiting for an Estimator who has a construction background and is looking to work locally with a strong and well established build team. You will be working on projects ranging from education to commercial, leisure, healthcare, housing, ecclesiastical - the majority of which are for local Sussex communities, contributing exciting buildings and amenities for local people and companies.
This well-established and respected construction business operates throughout Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. With a turnover of circa £10 million. They require a conscientious professional, committed to working in the construction sector, with excellent people and organisational skills, who has the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment. The role would suit an Estimator who is looking for a planned and supported career progression plan to the next level. It is anticipated that the role will take the lead in the department within 4 -5 years. From the start the position has collaboration with Senior managers with the companies key strategic plan.
Your new role
Based from their offices in the Brighton area, your duties will focus on qualifying, pricing and winning tenders for building contracts of up to £8m in value. The role will include -
- Liaise with clients, consultants, quantity surveyors, and other third parties.
- Review and evaluate all tender enquiries for completeness and accuracy.
- Administrate correspondence and tender documentation throughout the supply chain
- Organise and attend site visits with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Participate in project meetings.
- Obtain pricing in a timely manner to meet with submission deadlines.
- Review and evaluate all project costs and provide a complete price submission
- Assess the levels of business risk on each project.
- Maintain relationships with clients keeping a sales-minded attitude
- Provide estimating and tender writing training to the estimating team as and when required.
What you'll need to succeed
You should have a decent amount of experience pricing and winning tenders for similar contracts, be articulate, with excellent attention to detail and a good understanding of construction processes, which will allow you to price projects accurately. IT literacy is essential, and a knowledge of Conquest or a similar estimating package desirable (although training will of course be given). Many of the tenders coming into the business are from repeat clients, so strong communication skills with a customer focus are also essential.
