They have a proud history of safely delivering cost-effective decommissioning, waste management and land remediation services for the nuclear industry. Your new role
Working within the Consultancy Services division, these roles offer the opportunity to work within a dynamic team delivering a wide range of projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration within the UK nuclear industry. You will be involved in developing and undertaking small- and large-scale trials to underpin radioactive waste management strategies. There will be a particular focus on developing formulation process envelopes for encapsulating and immobilising radioactive waste. A key focus for future work will be supporting customers to underpin the use of encapsulants with reduced carbon-footprints. This will require:

  • Understanding the purpose of encapsulation and immobilisation for the safe management of radioactive waste;
  • Developing and designing trials to underpin the use of identified encapsulant or immobilisation matrices for their proposed purpose within a disposal system; and
  • Preparing coherent written reports to present findings within an appropriate context.
  • There will also be the opportunity to be involved in other areas of work within the Consultancy Services division and supporting delivery of our other divisions

What you'll need to succeed

· Recognised professional qualifications (e.g., BSc/MSc/PhD) in a relevant science-based discipline such as (but not limited to) chemistry.
  • Experience of working within a laboratory and / or 'rig hall' environment would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge or experience of the role of encapsulation and immobilisation for radioactive waste management, e.g., cement, would be an advantage
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with structuring and writing technical reports.
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Good communication and engagement skills

What you'll get in return
You will be offered 25 holidays plus bank holidays which continue to increase with length of service. 37.5 hour working week, life assurance x3 salary, 5% company contributory pension, health care policy, full training and opportunity to progress. You will have an exciting and challenging work environment that will enable you to use, develop and hone your technical expertise in a supportive and collaborative working environment.
