Project Manager

The starting salary for this position is £45,734 per annum+ benefits based on a 36 hour working week. This is a permanent position.

This role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. We're less about you driving to work and more about us collectively driving down our carbon footprint. We care about how you work rather than where you work; the people rather than the postcode. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we'd welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

Surrey County Council have commenced a major Capital Development Programme with the Land and Property Team delivering approximately £500M of new build and refurbishment projects over a five-year period, with plans for further future investment. The portfolio of projects represents the emerging need of the residents, the front-line services and the business-as-usual facilities for the Council. The Council have equally committed to deliver an operationally Net Carbon Zero Estate by 2030, reducing energy use, improving cost efficiency and addressing fuel poverty.

We are recruiting for three full time Principal Project Managers to work within the Capital Delivery Team, to manage and deliver a wide range of projects from inception to completion on behalf of our service department clients and stakeholders. Our project list is currently over one hundred projects which includes SBN and SEND school provisions, public service buildings and support for our most vulnerable residents.

You will be working with external professional advisors and internal departments such as the Estates, Procurement and Legal teams and alongside the Corporate Landlord and Investment teams. The role is focused on delivering high standard, efficient, cost-saving projects, which meet the organisation's strategic objectives, operational plans, improve the experience of the users and support the lives of our residents.

The Capital Development Team was restructured in the Summer of 2020 and is ready to expand. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated candidates who have project management or project delivery experience to join our highly professional team and who wish to progress, either through further study or achievement.

To be shortlisted for interview your application and personal statement must clearly evidence the following as a minimum requirement:

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification
  • Studying towards a professional status (not essential)
  • Proven ability to deliver construction projects or programmes
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and professional appointments
  • Knowledge of Procurement procedures
  • Experience of briefing, managing and directing specialist advisors
  • Experience of delivering RIBA Stage Reports and decision gateways
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills
