Structural Technician

Your role:

Your role is to assist the lead Senior Structural Engineer in the structural design of all the teams’ construction projects from inception to post contract review. You will work closely with the Capital Projects team and associated clients to ensure the council is achieving the best value for money across all aspects of structural design activities. You will be expected to develop close working relationships with the wider team and external bodies initiating close coordination of all the structural elements of the project including all structural changes.

As part of the council’s Structural Engineering team you will support with the provision of all the initial structural concept designs to support the Capital Project Team, maintaining structural information and ensuring compliance with contractual and brief requirements. You will assist with the structural design coordination functions on all projects developed and managed by the section. You will assist in the preparation feasibilities, design briefs and option appraisals for all structural elements. You will help develop structural design coordination strategies for major projects, identify, analyse and develop responses to structural design risks and check and analyse structural design solution details on tenders returns

You will assist the Senior Structural Engineer regarding all structural issues related to projects within the council, undertaking calculations and checks on detailed design submissions, establishing the structural design standard requirements, ensuring compliance with construction legislation requirements, and performing risk, value management and cost control monitoring of structural changes.

The Capital Projects Team are a small but enthusiastic team of construction professionals that turnover around £10M pa in capital projects and maintenance works to mainly education premises and some corporate properties. Our work ranges from the project management of minor reactive/planned repairs and statutory compliance services to major new build projects up to £25M relying heavily on a team working ethos to deliver projects on time, on budget and to high quality standards.
