To assist in the provision of engineering and logistical support to Police operations and major events.

The role holder will support the Operations Managers to deliver the objectives of the department. There is a requirement to attend meetings, liaise with other support departments, external organisations and our Police colleagues to undertake planned and non-planned ceremonials, public order and special operations. The candidate will be required to assist with planning the events, produce drawings and necessary documentation, order works, supervise on site and authorise payments to contractors.

The activities you support range from major public safety (Notting Hill Carnival and New Year’s Eve), public order (demonstrations etc.), ceremonial events (State visits etc.), responding to major incidents and on occasions attending crime scenes, facilitating police searches and supporting small discreet projects. Activities include the deployment of crowd control barriers, providing temporary accommodation & welfare facilities, temporary connection to utilities, overseeing the erecting of scaffold structures, deploying Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures and ensuring traffic management measures.

The successful candidate will be expected to work a flexible working pattern in line with the demands of the work.

Excellent networking skills are required, with the ability to build up a complete list of contacts, including builders, electricians, building and supply chain vendors, scaffolders, mobile cabin suppliers, who are willing and able to provide 24-hour cover and materials at very short notice.

Ideally, candidates are qualified or working towards either Building Surveying, Event Management or Mechanical / Electrical Engineering to at least B-Tec level or equivalent. You should be fully conversant with all current legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act.

A hands-on approach is expected along with a necessary ability to manage a variety of temporary building and engineering works personally (both mechanical and electrical) when required. This will also include the design and manufacture of specialist bespoke items at short notice as requested.

The role reports to an Operations Manager and operates from our Lambeth HQ. A significant amount of the work is delivered out of normal working hours and very often during weekend periods and Bank Holidays. As a result, the role holder is required to carry an on-call pager (on rotation) and expected to work a flexible working pattern in line with the demands of the work.

Due to the sensitive nature of the work undertaken by the section, the role holder will need to pass enhanced ‘SC/MV’ vetting. You may on occasions work outside of London and nationally when police resources are deployed so a full driving license is essential.
