Job Description

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer who displays a high level of professionalism, diligence and integrity when conducting engineering activities. You will be able to communicate up, down and across the organisation as well as being able to mentor and develop less experienced engineering staff.

As the Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will manage a large portfolio of diverse mechanical systems in support of world leading research into Nuclear Fusion which provides great variety in daily activities. You will be required to provide expertise in the specification, design, installation, commissioning and operation and maintenance of mechanical building services and HVAC plant and systems

What will you be responsible for?

  • Providing engineering expertise for the full lifecycle and management of mechanical building services
  • Producing engineering specifications and designs as well as conducting and managing design activities
  • Taking full responsibility for operational availability of assigned mechanical systems
  • Preparing engineering procedures, work instructions, risk assessments, and method statements, for assembly, installation, commissioning, and operation and maintenance tasks
  • Technical and commercial management of contract activities
  • Take full ownership of assigned work packages ensuring all technical criteria is satisfied in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice

Please note that occasional out of hours work on an on-call basis will be required.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competences required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or HND with demonstrable further learning and experience, in Building Services Engineering
  • High level understanding of design, integration, and operation and maintenance of building services systems
  • Experience in the use of project planning techniques
  • Experience in preparing engineering procedures and specifications
  • Understanding of regulations applicable to Mechanical Building Services (e.g. L8, Water Supply, LEV)

Desirable skills, experience and competences:

  • Membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE, IET) at IEng or CEng level
  • Experience of producing written safe systems of work, including Risk Assessments and Permits to Work
  • TREND User
  • AP10 Qualification (Mechanical Systems Authorised Person)
