Your new company
We're delighted to be partnering with a housing provider in Cambridgeshire to recruit a Clerk of Works on a permanent basis. The organisation has plans to develop 500+ new social and affordable homes each year and are growing their development team to facilitate these ambitious targets. You'll be joining a multi-disciplined development team, reporting into the manager you'll be working alongside 3 assistant Clerk of Works. The organisation is passionate about supporting and investing in their local community through a range of social and charitable initiatives.

Your new role
As a Clerk of Works you'll be responsible for a number of development sites and represent the employers agent and client on new build developments with project values up to £30m. You'll understand housing development and ideally affordable housing standards, as well as detailed requirements of all drawings and specifications and be aware of all relevant standards, building regulations and warranty specifications. You'll record all events on a project, monitor and record quality of materials and workmanship, document any defective work and ensure appropriate remedial action is taken by the contractor.

As the Clerk of Works you'll be monitoring standards and specifications as well checking that work proceeds according to programme, specifications and drawings. You will take photographs to evidence claims or deviations from the drawings and specification and to support any necessary claims and variations by the contractor. The Clerk of Works will work closely with the internal teams as well as external developers, building contractors and approved inspectors/building control.

What you'll need to succeed
As a Clerk or Works you'll ideally be a member of the Institute of Clerk of Works, or alternatively hold another professional membership such as CIOB. You'll likely have worked as a Clerk of Works or a Site Manager and be familiar with building regulations and NHBC requirements. You'll have a wealth of experience of new build housing construction, ideally affordable housing, and will have experience of monitoring and reporting on the quality of materials and workmanship. The Clerk of Works will also be able to ensure all Health and Safety legislation is met and to interpret detailed designs and specifications and ensure these are adhered to on site.
