Your new company
This leading firm of chartered town planners, chartered surveyors, civil engineers and property and business consultants is currently looking to hire a Senior Town Planner in its Shrewsbury Office. They have offices across the Midlands but the Shrewsbury office is home to their biggest planning presence.
Your new role
My client is seeking the right candidate who has enthusiasm and ambition to work to grow the planning team. Ideally, you will come with an existing client base or the ability and belief to build on our existing client base through maintaining existing client relationships and creating new ones. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and provide specialist planning input on an exciting and varied portfolio of development schemes.
The right candidate will be client focused and be able to effectively prioritise workloads and work independently with minimal supervision. You will be experienced in leading planning projects and managing multi-disciplinary teams through the planning phase of development schemes.
What you'll need to succeed
The position is office-based with administrative support and the candidate will be required to manage client relationships, provide fee quotes, arrange appointments, and to manage their work to meet deadlines under their own initiative. The candidate will be expected to contribute to marketing the service to prospective clients and win work.
The candidate will have at least 10 years' experience in planning and will be Chartered or be in a position to apply for Chartership. Ideally the candidate will have a planning policy or housebuilder background, with the experience in handling large residential schemes, with the ability and knowledge to promote sites and influence policy through the local plan process.
The following expertise / attributes are desirable:
- Ability to work with a wide range of clients, managing expectations and deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of the planning system and local plan process
- Project managing a broad mix of planning projects of differing size
- Handling and project managing major planning applications and project teams
- Experience of all types of appeals
- Ability to develop existing client relationships and create new ones
- Ability to generate new work for the planning team and the wider business
- Understanding of and ability to operate in a commercial environment
- A full driving licence is required
