Job Details

HS2 is the UK's new high-speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services.

As this project moves to its next phase, there is now a need for a dynamic Junior Engineer/Site Engineer to work on this exciting project and join forces with a Tier 1 contractor.

As the Site Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Support of management team and co-ordination with on-site operations
  • Maintaining progress in line with and assistance with 4 weekly look-ahead
  • Measure quantities of concrete for pours
  • Confirming materials deliveries match requisitions
  • Attend daily Start of Shift (SOS) meeting to plan following days works with subcontractors
  • Attend progress meetings (Weekly look-ahead meetings)
  • Attend RAMS readiness reviews for a better understanding of the works
  • Ensure temporary works installed as per design and liaise with TWS/TWC
  • Track daily progress & report this to Section Engineer
  • Attendance at daily cascade briefings
  • Preparing the SOS and ensure it is in place for the morning briefing.

Health and Safety Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure all correct documentation (e.g. Signed TBS's, RAMS & Permits) is in place for upcoming works, working with sub-contractor where required
  • Ensure safe systems of work are in place and being adhered to in accordance with safety management procedures
  • Reporting near misses, observations and close calls
  • Taking part and attending SHE inspections
  • CAT and genny training and use on site
  • Ensure all permits are closed and returned to the office
  • Work with Site Supervisors to resolve any issues on site, escalating as appropriate
  • Work with Site Supervisors to ensure good H&S standards on site and feedback any best practice to wider team

Site Engineer Accountabilities will include:

  • ITP's - Carrying out quality checks and raising any concerns with senior management
  • Planning and ordering of materials in time for the work to commence
  • Writing of permits for the section of works
  • Preparing safe system of works for the section
  • Compiling of site diaries
  • Know and understand drawings, schedules, specifications and permits relevant to the package and ensure working to the latest revision
  • Create and review task briefing sheets

To be successful in this Site Engineer role, you must have:

  • Degree or equivalent in civil engineering or construction
  • Previous experience in construction and experience as a site engineer on a civils project
  • A strong work ethic and an enthusiasm to learn and develop
  • Must hold a CSCS card
  • An SMSTS is also desirable
