Hays Property & Surveying London are delighted to announce that they have been exclusively appointed by The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to recruit for a key appointment within the Housing Repairs team. This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents. This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London's affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.

Your new role
The Principal Surveyor will provide a key leadership role in the team. The primary function will be to manage a team of 6 Surveyors providing essential technical support to the Repairs Service and across Property Services.

They will provide a lead role supporting the Repairs and Operations Manager by overseeing delivery of a range of technical surveying functions. These include pre and post-inspections of works including quality and cost checks, asbestos management surveys, CDM regulation and void specification checks.

The Postholder will manage complex repair cases and oversee litigation cases and work closely with legal services and solicitors to limit Council liability.

The Principal Surveyor will work to demanding performance standards, maintaining close control over budgets & close oversight of the health and safety of officers working in resident's homes. They will be expected to balance workload and prioritise cases according to the needs of the business and residents.

In addition to the core duties of the role, there is a need to co-operate closely with other departments in the council to provide a joined up service to our residents. The effective management of complaints and casework is crucial to guarantee the high performance of the service and the provision of advice to colleagues across housing management.

What you'll need to succeed
You will be an experience Legal Disrepair Surveyor with a substantial background in a technical housing environment where you have used and implemented a Project Management skill set to get works done. Ideally you will be MRICS but not essential with prior line management experience. You will have the ability to prepare and interpret technical reports and legal documentation.
