BUILDING SURVEYOR
Location: Head Office, Maidenhead
Function Area: Africa and Asia Pacific Area (AAPA)
Contract Type: Permanent/Full Time
Hours of work: 37 hours per week
Salary: From £41,000 per annum, depending upon experience
About the Role:
As a global organisation, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) operates in over 150 countries and territories. We are looking for an energetic building surveyor from a practical surveying/engineering background to support our Operations team in managing structural projects across Asia Pacific, Africa and the Indian Sub-Continent. Primarily based in Maidenhead, you will be travelling far and wide, so a love of travel would be an advantage. Some of our current projects include repairs to the Memorial roof at Kranji, Singapore, building new welfare facilities at Ambon, Indonesia and a flood wall at our cemetery in Chennai, India and bronze statue conservation repairs to the Askari Memorial, Africa. You will spend time working with our overseas works staff, delivering technical training to build and enhance their development.
About You:
- Experience travelling to remote locations and lone working would be beneficial
- Awareness and respect for different cultures, political sensitivities and complex environments
- A recognised and relevant technical qualification
- Practical understanding of conservation techniques
- Experience undertaking condition surveys of sites
- Experience using Excel, Word, Outlook
- Practical experience of direct project management (end to end – all phases)
- Managing tendering processes for £50K to £300K range projects
- Researching and compiling business case documents in support of project approval, bids etc
- Proven experience and success managing, leading and training small teams
- Personable, upbeat, driven, with a ‘can do, will do’ approach to problems
- Eligible to work in the UK
