New Forest District Council undertakes a number of building and construction activities that require oversight from a team of Clerks of Works. The Council is currently seeking a suitably skilled and experienced Clerks of Works to provide services across a diversity of contracts including New-build Housing delivery, housing conversion schemes, building works to Public Facilities and Special Projects, including coastal 

Job Summary

To undertake a Clerk of Work supervisory/monitoring function on a variety of cross service contracts ensuring building works are carried out to proper quality standards, in full health and safety compliance and to provide a measure of costs control in the area of claims for additional works.

The successful candidates will have a track record in building industry quality assurance and construction and building maintenance techniques, plus the ability to combine innovative thinking and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of large and small-scale construction and development projects. This will involve working closely with service teams within the Council to understand their work programme needs and to proportionate risk based inspection regimes.

You will;

  • carry out pre contract inspections and produce labour, plant and material resource analysis on refurbishment projects;
  • carry out all on-site supervision and inspections on allocated projects, to ensure quality of work is maintained and within the times/programme allocated;
  • carry out quality of work inspections to ensure work is in accordance with the specification and communicating any problems with the individual tradesman or charge hand;
  • prepare and implement programmes of work, monitor and re-evaluate to ensure contract timescales are achieved and labour resources regulated accordingly. Report any deviations from the contract programme to the relevant Building Surveyor / Contract Administrator;
  • ensure the materials and plant are in strict accordance with that specified in the contract;
  • ensure all projects comply with all current Health, Safety & Welfare requirements and that standards are reviewed in light of any new legislation.
  • ensure requirements under the Construction Design and Management (as amended) Regulations are adhered to, including the enforcement of Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans and Risk Assessments.
  • carry out post inspections of works as necessary, identify defects/outstanding items and issue handover sheets once work has been satisfactory completed;
  • complete daily visit reports and issue weekly Clerk of Works reports as appropriate.

General Information

The successful candidate will have served an apprenticeship in one of the building trades with a final City in Guilds Certificate or Member of the Institute of Clerks of Works and a sound working knowledge of building construction and building maintenance technique with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory capacity or a position of relevant transferable skills.
