Building Surveyor

The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join their team within the Site Maintenance Services Group. The team consists of circa 20 employees and are responsible for the maintenance of all buildings across the Culham site.

The Site Maintenance Group are seeking a self-motivated, organised individual with a good technical knowledge of the building industry who can communicate well at all levels. The role of Building Surveyor will be responsible for the refurbishment and maintenance of all buildings across the Culham site, you will also be required to carry out building condition reports and general building surveying duties. They will also be required to co-ordinate of the works on site between client and contractors. They are to ensure that the expected quality of work is achieved and managed in line with job specifications, in a safe manner conforming with Contractors Risk Assessments, Method Statements and applicable legislation.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include:

  • Manage the delivery of a number of construction related refurbishment project from inception to completion, including; liaison with clients to establish requirements, production of specification and drawings, tender of works package, supervision of onsite works, agreeing variations to completion of the works and final account. Typical project values of up to £1m.
  • Management of consultants working on a range of feasibility studies and related projects.
  • Robust project management of refurbishment/construction projects including strategy, procurement, budgets, milestones, deliverables, execution, QA, risk, performance reporting, change management, etc.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out safely, in compliance with the relevant statutory, UKAEA and best practice guidance.

Knowledge skills and experience

Essential

  • Educated to degree / HND level in a Building Surveying or Construction discipline.
  • A minimum of three or more years’ relevant post qualification experience in the delivery of maintenance services, preferably in the public sector.
  • Experience of the administration of NEC form of contract.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the management of internal and external stakeholders at different levels.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety requirements and understanding of current construction legislation and its application, including CDM regulations.

Desirable

  • Membership of a relevant chartered body e.g. RIC, CIOBS etc.
  • Demonstrable experience of safety management, IOSH or NEBOSH qualification in Health and Safety.

Selection Methods:

  • Initial interviews will be held between the 2 and 18 September 2019.
  • As part of the selection process you may be expected to complete work based simulation exercises and a personality profile either online or onsite.
