We are a tax-free jurisdiction, and persons who work for the Cayman Islands Government do not require work permits.  The Public Works Department Major Projects Office (PWD MPO) has a number of vacancies for Senior Project Managers as follows:

Senior Project Manager – Cruise Berthing Development

The opportunity:

The Post holder will be responsible for the successful delivery of a major Cruise Berthing Facility and Cargo Upgrade project from completion of final tenders to financial close and project completion (Total Project Value in excess of $200million). This project is being  delivered through a Public Private Partnership under a Design Build Finance and Maintain (DBFM) procurement route. The post holder will be providing high quality project management through the remaining stages of the project lifecycle with specific responsibilities including:

  • Planning and  management of all project deliverables including schedule and cost;
  • Management  of external  consultants (Financial, Legal, Technical and Environmental) including final business case;
  • Management of Public/Private Stakeholder meetings and Public meetings;
  • Management of local support staff
  • Monitoring the contractor design as well as the construction process;
  • Monitoring the commissioning and post commissioning process;
  • Liaising with Government regulatory entities and Authorities.

The requirements:

The post holder must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the applied sciences related to marine engineering and construction/construction management (i.e. marine engineering, civil engineering, project management,  or construction management) from an accredited educational Institution. Additionally, the post holder must be a registered, professional member of his/her discipline established either in the UK, US or Canada.

The post holder will possess a minimum of 15 years + relevant experience in managing complex multi disciplinary projects; which will ideally include experience in the design or construction and delivery of port and marine projects with an emphasis on dredging; piling; land reclamation; environmental permitting; cargo & cruise operations. Experience of PPP Procurement is considered very desirable with  projects in the order of $50 million or above. A high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team and to relate to people at all levels, within Government and the community is required. The post holder must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management Software such as MS Project; be a team player and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Senior Project Manager – John Gray High School

The opportunity:

The Post holder will be responsible for the successful delivery of the New John Gray High School Campus (NJGHS) which includes three sequential major capital projects. The NJGHS project will be delivered by a two stage Design and Build Procurement Route with Consultant novation in stage two (Total Project Value Circa $80 million).The project is currently at the end of concept design stage with the Design Team and D+B General Contractor recently appointed. The post holder will be providing high quality project management through the remaining stages of the project lifecycle with specific responsibilities including:

  • Planning and  management of all project deliverables including schedule and cost;
  • Management  of external  consultants and D+B Contractor (Multidiscipline Design Team, Cost & Contract Admin);
  • Management of Stakeholder meetings and Steering Committee meetings;
  • Management of local support staff
  • Monitoring the design process as well as the construction process;
  • Monitoring the commissioning and post commissioning process;
  • Liaising with Government regulatory entities and Authorities.

The requirements:

The post holder must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the applied sciences related to Engineering / Construction / Architecture / Project Management / Quantity Surveying from an accredited educational institution. Additionally, the post holder must be a registered professional member of his/her discipline, established either in the UK, US or Canada.

The post holder will possess a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in Project Management and contract administration which will ideally include significant experience in managing education projects in the range of $20 to $50 million and above. Prior experience in significant high school construction projects delivered as a two stage design and build procurement is considered very desirable.

The post holder will have proven project management skills, including experience in the management of all phases of capital projects. The post holder will be experienced in standard contract forms documentation and consultant agreements.  Experience using the AIA; NEC and JCT contract forms will be preferred. A high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team and to relate to people at all levels, within Government and the community is required. 

Senior Project Manager – Judicial Projects

The opportunity:

The Post holder will be responsible for the successful delivery of New Judicial Projects which includes the New Courthouse Facility and a New Prison. The New Courthouse facility project is at the end of the Outline Business Case stage and the New Prison is at the Strategic Outline Case stage (Total Project value in excess of $150million). The post holder will be providing high quality project management through the remaining stages of the project lifecycle with specific responsibilities including:

  • Planning and  management of all project deliverables including schedule and cost;
  • Selection; appointment and Management  of external  consultants and Contractor (Multidiscipline Design Team, Cost & Contract Admin for OBC and design stages);
  • Management of Stakeholder meetings and Steering Committee meetings;
  • Management of local support staff;
  • Monitoring the selection; appointment and design process as well as the construction process;
  • Monitoring the commissioning and post commissioning process;
  • Liaising with Government regulatory entities and Authorities.

The requirements:

The post holder must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the applied sciences related to Engineering / Construction / Architecture / Project Management / Quantity Surveying from an accredited educational institution. Additionally, the post holder must be a registered professional member of his/her discipline, established either in the UK, US or Canada.

Prior experience in significant Courts and Prisons construction projects delivered as a two stage design and build or PPP procurement is also considered very desirable.

The post holder will be experienced in standard contract forms documentation and consultant agreements.  Experience using the AIA; NEC and JCT contract forms will be preferred. A high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team and to relate to people at all levels, within Government and the community is required. 

The compensation and benefits:

The remuneration package includes: Annual salary of US $101,040 - $135,900 (Paid in Cayman Islands dollars $CI84,874-$114,156), non-contributory benefits include full medical and dental benefits for yourself and eligible dependents, as well as employer paid pension contributions of 12% of annual salary (ie no salary deductions)  A relocation package for airfare and shipment of personal effects in also included.
