Senior Design Manager Job - £60k-£70k + Benefits - Slough


Job Purpose
This document provides a framework outlining the key experiences and functional skills that will be expected of Senior Design Manager for working within this Company

The Senior Design Manager (SDM) is responsible to implement and drive the design management, and be a key driver of continuous improvement and a key influencer of bid management.

The DM will be led by the Company Goals and will ensure that all departmental targets reflect the requirements of the corporate strategy. The ability to prioritise between design, procurement and construction.

They will lead and manage a team. The SDM will inspire their team members and act as a 'high performance coach and mentor'. They will have the vision to lead from the front and conduct the performance of the team rather than getting involved in the detail. The SDM will have a grasp of the bigger picture and will use this to drive the team.

Essential Experience Desirable Experience
* Managing a team
* IT literate
* Highly competent with planning and organisational skills
* Highly competent in analysis and problem solving
* Significant proven track record of delivery
* Risk Management
* Experience of preconstruction and work winning
* Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues
* Managing customers and consultants
* ONC/ HNC
* BSc / MCIOB
* SMSTS or other safety training

* Track record in managing change
* Business knowledge
* Experience in managing different approaches and business solutions
* Educated ideally to degree level
Core Accountabilities
Health and Safety and Legislation
* Ensure that all legislation surrounding the company activities are managed with integrity, including employment law and Health and Safety legislation and communicate CDM Regulations 2015 duties on behalf of the Company.
* Take personal responsibility for your own and the health and safety of others at work

People Management
* Set clear performance targets and corporate goals and communicate this effectively to team members.
* Provide training/ mentor to all work colleagues
* Provide assistance to project managers to produce accurate/ regular reporting
* Performance measuring of design/design consultants
* Decision making on employment, pay reviews, PDR's and Performance Management in connection to design team

Change Management
* Create a sense of urgency for change by continuously focussing on the marketplace and potential threats and opportunities on the horizon.
* Identify change opportunities quickly and proactively
Strategic
* Assist in business development at strategic level

Planning Control and Reporting
* Responsible for design management best practice
o Establishment of guidance across business, providing consistency
o Continuous Improvement of design management
o Industry best practice research and implementation where appropriate
o Development of simple reporting system
* Providing support across the whole business when required
* Input into tenders and tender settlements
* Develop current processes / procedures to suit the size and type of business
* Assist in developing 'real time' monitoring of performance on projects
* Provide assistance to project managers to produce accurate / regular reporting

Customers
* Build trusted relationships across the business and become a subject matter expert
* Establish relationships with design consultants and develop a set of appointment documents
