Clerk of Works, Derbyshire, Public Sector

Your new company
A public sector organisation are looking to recruit a Clerk of Works on a temporary basis to oversee maintenance work and new build projects within the Derbyshire area.

Your new role
As a successful applicant you will be required to work with existing staff and contractors to make sure that staff, visitors and contractors are safe and works are carried out to a high standard. You will ensure all assets comply with all relevant regulatory matters concerning maintenance, small scale construction and safety.
Your duties will consist of:

  • Overseeing small scale projects and maintenance works, carried out by outside contractors and in-house tradesmen, are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Assess and monitor works, especially with regard to quality.
  • Validating the technical feasibility of design and construction plans.
  • Assessing progress against programme.
  • Monitoring and mitigating the risks involved in the project and maintenance works (quality, safety and environmental).
  • Identifying, highlighting and recording issues (before they become problems).
  • Commenting on risk assessment and project plans (quality plans, safety plans, etc.).
  • Monitoring quality in projects.
  • Controlling and testing building materials and witnessing commissioning tests.
  • Monitoring compliance with designs and applicable codes.
  • Monitoring the quality of materials and components.
  • Monitoring the safety measures on site.
  • Monitor site environmental criteria.
  • Managing rectification of any latent defects.
  • Maintaining a daily diary and preparing weekly reports on live projects and maintenance works.
  • Raising purchase orders and approving invoices for payment from external contractors.
  • Working with others to ensure that works are procured in accordance with the Estates procurement policy and appropriate purchase orders or formal contracts are put in place.



What you'll need to succeed
You must have significant relevant experience and will ideally have a construction qualification (Degree/HNC/HND) or equivalent.

You must have a good working knowledge of the building industry and be familiar with materials, trades, methods and legal requirements. You need to have a good understanding of the CDM regulations and must be attentive to detail when checking work and materials.
