Your new company
This North London based public sector organisation is currently looking to recruit an Environmental Health Pollution Officer to join their Pollution Team.
The Pollution Team provides a specialist professional service to discharge the organisation's statutory responsibility to enforce legislation and protect public health. It has a strong regulatory function around industry and the commercial sector, and also acts as a specialist consultancy service in areas of health protection.
Your new role
As a Pollution Officer you will be responsible for monitoring air quality and land contamination within the borough and consider ways in which this can be improved. You will do this through carrying out appropriate surveys and sampling of environmental media including air and soil, and then submit these samples for analysis. Gathering of evidence must be carried out under statutory guidelines such as the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. You will then be required to use such evidence to prepare legal cases for the purposes of civil and criminal proceedings in courts, inquiries and tribunals including prosecutions.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Investigate, survey, inspect, report on and resolve cases involving environmental pollution nuisance or environmental pollution issues.
* Investigate and monitor the different pollutants within the borough
* Carry out school visits and speak to students about air quality
* Collect air quality testing tubes and submit for analysis
* Scrutinise and critically examine planning applications or pre-applications, Environmental Impacts Assessments and Environmental Statements and make comments and recommendations in terms of legal and technical issues relating to environmental pollution
What you'll need to succeed
To be the successful candidate you will have a recognisable qualification in either Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Geography or similar. You will have extensive knowledge of pollution, specifically relating to air quality and contaminated land and also be aware of The Mayor's London Local Air Quality Management (LLAQM) framework. In addition to this you will also have knowledge of planning applications and environmental assessments.
What you'll get in return
Competitive Market hourly rate
Long-term contract
Holiday pay
