Long-term Temporary to Permanent Painter, Handyman and Escort Role at Hollesley Bay Prison, Woodbridge

HMP Hollelsey Bay

Based on 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Mon - Thurs: 8am - 5pm, Fri: 8am -4pm)

£9.94/hr - £13.45/hr (including holiday)

Overview of the position:

As the leading agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit an experienced Painter, Handyman and Escort for Hollesley Bay Prison, Woodbridge. This is a long-term temporary to permanent job based on an average of 39 hours per week, working Monday - Friday.

The role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport. Basic uniform will need to be provided by the temporary worker in most establishments, the Prison/Contractor will supply high visibility clothing and protective headwear, along with any other specialist safety equipment if required.

Purpose of the Painter, Handyman and Escort role:

As part of the Works/ Maintenance Department you will be responsible for the painting maintenance requirements throughout the prison, along with general maintenance and the everyday escorting of building contractors and visitors. As an addition, you will also be asked to build furniture (e.g. Flat-Packing) and then paint these as well.
You will also be required to assist in the safety and security of the establishment where your duties will include escorting visitors, building contractors, gate duties within the prison and outside areas.
You will ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff and prisoners within a Prison establishment, while persons from outside of NOMS are on site. You will also ensure that no unauthorised persons or items enter the establishment.

Painter/ Supervisor Duties:
Internal & external painting
Supervision of visitors
General maintenance & making good
Reactive & emergency repairs
Planned painting projects throughout
Radio handling Tool checks

Experience:

Evidence of significant and recent painting experience is essential.
Experience supervising a team of painters is desirable.
The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will be assessed based on the following competencies: acting with integrity, respecting others, Building relationships and team working, communicating effectively, developing self and others.

Security Clearance required:

All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure, this will also include a DBS check.
You must hold a valid passport or birth certificate & photo driving licence in your current address.
