We're pleased to be working exclusively with a college in Cambridge to recruit a Head of Estates, Maintenance and Contracts. This is a beautiful college which provides an excellent standard of higher education, it is open and friendly and the college has some amazing outdoor spaces and gardens. The college has undergone significant development with a number of new facilities added over a number of years with interesting light and modern architecture meeting Victorian and Edwardian.
Your new role
As the Head of Estates you'll be reporting to the Bursar to plan and deliver the estates strategy (5 year plan) as well as the operational management of maintaining and improving the fabric and facilities on the main college site and in college houses. You'll be managing a small team of a Maintenance Manager and a small team of 5 multi-skilled trades, alongside a budget of £2m pa. There is a need to manage a range of listed buildings as well as external college houses and flats including overall management of college health and safety. You will liaise closely with the accommodation and grounds teams to ensure the high standard of the college are maintained.
The Head of Estates will lead on the planning and scheduling of responsive and planned maintenance programmes, as well as capital projects. You will be required to occasionally review and tender all subcontracted major building or maintenance works, as well as managing any associate risks, health and/or safety issues.
What you'll need to succeed
We're looking for a senior level property professional with a relevant building related qualification to take a strategic lead with managing strategy, projects, contracts and day to day maintenance issues. You'll be able to demonstrate significant budget management experience and the planning of responsive, planned and capital works programmes. Excellent communication and IT skills as well as up-to-date knowledge of health and safety, building regulations and CDM is essential. Experience of working in an education or a public sector setting will be highly beneficial.
