The School of the Built Environment is the UK's top rated school for the Built Environment. Our school is ranked number 3 in the UK in Times UK University League Table for Built Environment subjects. We are the only school to have achieved 6 star rating in the UK government national research assessment for built environment research - this is the highest possible rating. The School has also won the Queen's Anniversary Prize for its contribution to higher education and again we are the only school in Built Environment to have been awarded this honour.

The School of the Built Environment has a strong, multi-disciplinary, teaching and learning base, strengthened by national and international collaboration. We have over 60 academic staff of whom 26 are professors. Our top calibre teaching, research and technical staff offer access to leading edge thinking, knowledge and support facilities of the highest quality.

We have over 1200 undergraduate students, some 200 Masters students and 140 PhD postgraduate research students from all over the world. Our graduates are much sought after by blue chip companies. Some 95% of our undergraduate students found employment by the time of graduation or go on further study.

We offer a range of management focused, professionally accredited, undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. The programmes have been developed in partnership with the Built Environment industries to meet their needs for future innovative leaders.

Postgraduate taught programmes

Some postgraduate programmes are designed for new entrants to the Built Environment sector, whilst others offer existing practitioners the opportunity for advanced professional development. All reflect the very latest global thinking and practice in their sectors. The mode of attendance of our programmes is flexible. Postgraduate taught student can study full-time or part-time (most programmes) on campus or by distance learning over the Internet via an interactive virtual learning environment, featuring regular tutor contact and directed support. Studying part-time allows students to combine a career with study.

Undergraduate programmes

Undergraduate students can study full-time with paid work placement options or part-time. The year out experience enhances students’ employability. All our UG courses are accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
