Your new company
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays are seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades.
This is a Temporary Contract starting ASAP for approximately 6 months. You must be local to the area, drive and have your own transport. This is paid via your own Limited Company, an umbrella PAYE company/ or a direct PAYE option is available at a reduced hourly rate.
You will be working at HMP Garth for a facilities management and maintenance company. This company ensures that all maintenance projects throughout the prison are completed to a high standard. HMP Garth is a male category C training prison, based in Leyland.
Your new role
Your new job will be a 6 month temporary role. You will be carrying out reactive and planned electrical maintenance throughout the prison, which will include changing light bulbs, rewiring, and troubleshooting any problems that may arise. You may also be asked to carry out other maintenance jobs that are not electrical. All of your tools will be provided by the prison. You will also be asked to work a weekend shift either one in 3 or one in 4 (this could include on call shifts.)
What you'll need to succeed
4 year minimum apprenticeship/qualification period, 17the edition and it would be beneficial to have your test and inspect. You will need to be able to pass an enhanced vetting procedure to be considered for this role
Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department. All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 4 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
What you'll get in return
You will be paid £15.29 per hour, plus any overtime rates. This will be paid on a weekly basis. There is a chance you could be offered a permanent position if you impress the site managers. Any weekend work is paid on a higher rate, which is 1.25x for your Saturday and 1.33x for your Sunday. If being on call is needed, it's £115 for the week.
