With 1200 staff nationwide, they have expertise across a wide range of professions ensuring the highest possible quality in every area of design, construction and customer service. They now require a Senior Civil Engineer in their office in Exeter.
Your new role
In your new role, you will be part of the day to day design of civil engineering projects according to the guidelines set-out in the technical department's Best Practice Policy in order to provide a quality and cost effective service. You will undertake the management of projects from initial briefing through to design and construction up to adoption within the specified timescales. You will be allocating work to more junior staff appropriate to their skills and experience, and undertaking training with the junior staff as well. You will be responsible for ensuring that designs achieve practical and economic solutions as either part of a team or independently. You will be providing technical advice, preparing engineering drawings and utilising relevant design software, drainage design software and PDS modelling. You will be liaising with service authorities and managing the progress of the project from initial briefing, through design and construction, to adoption within the specified timescales, as well as checking the quality and standard of all design work throughout the department.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be educated to a degree level within Civil Engineering or equivalent and should have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of CAD. Knowledge of other relevant software packages is also required, including Geosite, Smart Engineer, Autotrack, Microdrainage and PDS, or equivalent. You will have a strong mathematical and IT ability and good decision-making skills, with an understanding of budget management. The nature of the role means that you will need to have strong communication skills, the ability to visualise and explain ideas, work well as a part of a team and individually and have an accurate eye for detail. The ability to work well under pressure and hit deadlines to high quality and within the set time-frames is also essential.
