Design Manager - Main Contractor - London £60-70,000 (URGENT REQUIREMENT)
Our client is the Main contracting division of privately owned construction company, established over 25 years ago. Sectors they work in include health, commercial, leisure education with project values from £2M to £25M.
They are going through a period of steady expansion and need to add to their Design team.
You will be working on a New Build Private Hospital (B&D, Shell and core, circa £10M), which has just been awarded. Ideally you will have a Degree in Construction/Engineering Design with around 10 years' experience including managing the design for main contractors. You will be familiar with operating on projects in London and the South-East, and with the following proven experiences and abilities:
o Recent experienced in medium to large scale JCT design and build contracts, ideally with 2 stage contract experience.
o Experience in the in pre-contract process as well as post contract. Will be expected to assist with Contractors Proposals and attendance at post tender interviews as well as 'live' projects.
o Commercially aware, inputting into subcontract and material procurement processes, putting forward alternative design solutions that aid profitability.
o Both BIM and Health Care experience will be advantages.
o Experience in the development and negotiation of consultant appointment documents, design responsibility matrices, deliverables schedules, design programmes, interface and overall project risk appraisal and management essential.
o Particularly important to demonstrate a 'command' of design meetings.
o Work in conjunction with the commercial team in the procurement of designing subcontractors; providing latest order placement dates, vetting to ensure adequacy of design capabilities, providing post tender appraisals, agreeing precommencement and post completion requirements.
o Ability to produce & present concise & accurate contract reports for regular internal & external meetings.
o Ability to co-ordinate design consultants' and specialist subcontractors' design outputs, reviews and comments and to efficiently manage the dissemination of completed design information to all who require it.
o Risk management skills in respect to design shortfall, interfaces, design programme, clash avoidance and the like. Effectively identifying, scheduling and managing out risks.
