Quantity Surveyor - Dorset - Commercial Contractor

Quantity Surveyor position with a Dorset based contractor who have built a reputation on quality. They are looking to pay a competitive salary with attractive employment package.

Your new company
Having built over a number of generations the company have established themselves in the Dorset and South-west market for the quality of projects they construct. The business operates regionally with projects around an hour's drive from the offices. This includes a variety of commercial and social housing projects both refurbishment & new builds from £500,000 - £10million in value. With the businesses continued growth over the last year they are now seeking a new Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team on a permanent basis.

Your new role
You will join the existing commercial team with your key objective involving the accurate financial reporting on project(s). Depending on project size and new business coming into the company you may be managing multiple projects at any one time. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Place sub-contracts in accordance with the main contract.
  • Monitor sub-contractors against programme and ensure direct reports do likewise and offer advice and support on problem areas
  • Pro-actively report to client and ensure direct reports do likewise
  • Monitor internal expenditure against budget and ensure direct reports do likewise
  • Ensure compliance of Health & Safety standards and procedures

Some Estimating responsibilities may be required as part of the role, this will involve supporting the bid team to achieve deadlines, obtain competitive quotes, identify and report on risk and opportunity / scope.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be a Quantity Surveyor who has managed new build & refurbishment projects within a contractual environment. You must a team player and pro-active in your approach within the office and on site with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the role. You will need to have a relevant construction management or surveying qualifications (HNC, HND or BSc).
