Bedales was founded in 1893 in response to the standard Victoria school and it has always enjoyed being different. The founder, John Badley, established Bedales as one of the first co-educational boarding schools with the introduction of girls in 1898. Nowadays, Bedales (the Senior School) is a boarding school of 465 students, fully co-educational with 33% day students. It is situated in a beautiful rural estate of 120 acres which is shared with its Pre-prep and Prep School. Petersfield, about 2 miles from the school, is an attractive historic market town with easy rail links to London, Portsmouth, Chichester and Winchester.

The School is seeking to make the key senior appointment to the post of Head of Estates & Facilities reporting to the Bursar.  The School is ambitious to further develop and improve the estate and its buildings to provide the very best learning environment for the students.  The estate includes: the Grade 1 listed Lupton Hall and Library; the Orchard Building, which won a RIBA National Award in 2006; and the new Art and Design Building, which won four RIBA Regional Awards and a RIBA National Award and for which the School was the Winner of the RIBA Client of the Year 2017. http://www.bedales.org.uk/home/about-bedales/bedales-estate/art-design-building . A number of further exciting projects are planned and these present a real opportunity for the new Head of Estates and Facilities.   The post holder will lead the Estates functions responsible for delivering capital projects and the management, maintenance, repair and improvement of the School’s buildings, grounds, sports pitches and gardens.  They will also be responsible for the facilities operations of the School covering portering, cleaning services, security and transport maintenance, and grounds and gardens management across the School’s extensive and diverse estate portfolio. 

The successful candidate will possess demonstrable experience of leading an estate across a comparable diverse portfolio and be qualified in a relevant built environment discipline. You will be a strong communicator with extensive experience in leading a ‘best in class’ customer facing team of both directly employed and contracted staff. Adept change management and business transformation experience in a similar collaborative environment is essential. This post will suit professionals who enjoy taking full day to day operational responsibility in addition to fully participating in long-term planning.
