A public sector employer in Lewisham are currently looking to recruit a Maintenance Surveyor on an ongoing contractual basis. The area of Lewisham is an interesting place to work, with a reputably large housing stock and future plans of undergoing major regeneration to a range of facilities. Our client's offices are based close to local bus and train stations making this a very commutable location.
Your new role
As a successful candidate, you will play a key role in carrying out onsite inspections on a variety of property designs. You will be collecting, assessing and maintaining comprehensive stock condition data to ensure high standards of customer satisfaction. You will have to identify defects and recognise problems with ease. Based on your observations from the inspections, you will be able to make recommendations on the structural soundness of the housing stock to the Voids Manager. You will also supervise contractors on site where needed to monitor expenditure and performance.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to demonstrate experience of carrying out onsite inspections. You will also be able to write reports on remedial works, and be creative when considering alternatives and anticipating consequences for your development solutions. You will be able to work well both independently, and in a team within a social housing environment. You will also be comfortable with dealing with complaints and compensation claims.
You will need to be aware of the current property industry legislations associated with the Local Authority sector, and be familiar with housing health and safety rating system assessments. Being a Chartered MRICS Building Surveyor will be desirable, but is not essential for this job. Access to your own vehicle is also preferred. Excellent communication skills and good understanding of IT systems are essential for the job.
