Design Manager. Pocket Living
Salary / Rate: Negotiable
Location: Greater London
Job Type:Contract / Freelance / Interim
www.pocketliving.com is a private developer that has been innovating in housing for over a decade to provide homes for city makers on average incomes, who work hard to make London the world's leading city.
City makers have been disproportionately affected by the housing crisis and this is why Pocket Living is backed by the Mayor of London, the Government and Related Companies, one of America¹s largest developers. This makes for a very exciting time in the company's evolution.
Pocket Living is working with over half of London¹s local authorities to deliver hundreds of Pocket affordable homes a year alongside its open market Pocket Edition homes, built using both traditional and modular construction methodologies. Pocket Living is leading the way in new forms of affordable housing and embracing innovative construction techniques to help change the way that London meets its housing challenges.
Pocket Living are presently looking to hire a Design Coordinator. The company is in a strong cash position which they intend to use for expansion.
All current developments are in London and are either pure housing or residential -led mixed-use projects. The scale varies from 30 units up to 200 units so there is a wide variety of scales and sites. Projects will be a mixture of new build and building conversion. Typically, there are 10-15 projects underway at any one time.
The role would see you managing some of the industry's best architectural practices, including smaller practices that have a strong local agenda. The successful candidate will manage the design development process and seek to find the optimum balance between design and factors such as cost, 'buildability', programme and functionality.
The position will report to the Senior Operations Director and will work closely with a wide range of teams internally.
Candidates will come from either and Architectural Technology or an Architecture background and could come from an architectural practice, a main contractor or development company. They will be capable of running multiple sites of 30 to 200 units and will have a track record of completed UK residential projects.
Candidates should combine good design sensibility with strong technical and statutory knowledge. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The initial contract will be 6months fixed term. Subject to workload and performance, the contract may be made permanent after this period. Competitive
