Home Improvement Technical Officer
Adur and Worthing Councils are two distinct local authorities, located on the South Coast, that have joined across a number of functions to create better value. They are the only authority in West Sussex to retain an in-house Home Improvement Agency, which provides support and technical help to residents applying for grant-aided assistance with repairs and adaptations under both the mandatory Disabled Facility Grant system and the Council’s own Repair Grant Assistance scheme.
The Home Improvement Agency works with often-vulnerable applicants in delivering adaptations that enables people to remain in their homes safely for longer so preserving their independence as well as reducing social care costs.
The service needs a qualified surveyor who has the capacity and technical knowledge to deal with the more complex adaptations, as well as more routine works. The role requires that you have a relevant surveying qualification and preferably membership of an appropriate professional representative body but it would be eminently suitable for a newly qualified, or soon to be qualified, candidate looking to gain valuable experience in this field.
You must be able to use CAD and be confident in the use of IT.
Reporting to the Home Improvement Team Leader, the successful candidate must be a hard working individual with a mature, responsible outlook and an ability to communicate with the public.
The post will be based in Worthing town centre, but an essential part of the role is visiting people in their home across Adur and Worthing District You must hold a full current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
