Part of a worldwide group with an annual turnover approaching €2BN, our client is a leading provider of technical products and solutions to the construction industry. Its strong product portfolio spans a broad range of construction categories and materials, with each business unit framing its own strategy to maximise its return in local markets.
One of these business units now wishes to recruit a Sales Director for its UK business. The role requires a strong leader who will focus on best in class commercial processes and demand generation. Effective management of all channels will be essential, particularly the development of potent communications / relationships with architects and specifiers, allied to management of other key players such as distributors, installers and main contractors.
Based in Central England and reporting to the Managing Director of the European Division, the Sales Director will:
- Develop and successfully implement a commercial strategy for delivery of high growth with a product portfolio which has achieved significant penetration in other international markets.
- Lead and develop a nimble, tight but effective Sales, Marketing and Technical Support Team for the business across the UK.
- Clearly define and communicate key roles and responsibilities in the Sales, Marketing and Technical Team, defining SMART objectives and ensure full accountability for performance.
- Build a personal profile in the market and among key customers and opinion leaders.
- Prepare and oversee the successful implementation of fully integrated annual Sales & Marketing plans.
- Monitor performance, coach and drive accountability while preparing and implementing an appropriate training and development programme to optimise performance for the UK Sales Team.
- Ensure effective communication within the UK Team of both local and European issues while also actively participating in the European Divisional Team.
- Take a lead role locally in defining product and system development opportunities.
- Be degree qualified with an absolute minimum of five years demonstrable successful sales leadership experience in the specification focused construction sector. Experience in developing and growing new business in new markets is a distinct advantage.
- Have a structured and methodical approach to Sales management along with the proven ability to lead a Sales Team, manage change and develop and embed both strategic and practical skills.
- Be an excellent communicator while having very strong team leadership and team building skills.
- Be open, persuasive, strategic, with good listening and natural informal influencing skills from both a line management and cross functional perspective.
- Be able to operate in a matrix structure which does not naturally allow for intensive, regular leadership coaching.
