The Kent School of Architecture is based on the University’s Canterbury campus and offers programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The excellent resources include dedicated computing suites, an architectural model workshop and newly equipped studios.
The latest programme to be added to our portfolio is a taught MA in Urban Design. This interdisciplinary programme proposes a particular perspective of the city, combining the strength of architectural philosophy and history with the study of the contemporary city to provide an understanding that addresses the dynamic conditions of urban life today. It draws from the wider context of the humanities, cultural studies, the visual arts, drama, film and other media that influence the formation of contemporary urban landscapes.
Kent is recognised for the interdisciplinary nature of its degrees and the School actively collaborates with other departments in the Faculty of Humanities including Drama, Visual Arts, and the School of European Culture and Languages as well as being the home to CREAte, the Centre for Research in European Architecture. We aim to promote a creative studio culture and encourage students to interact with each other, members of staff, and practicing professionals both locally and nationally. The University of Kent is committed to architecture in the region and the unique opportunity presented by regeneration activities in Kent allows the School to become a focus for experimentation and conjecture, building strong links with regional business, local communities and built environment professionals.
Kent has one of the best graduate employability records of any UK university and in addition to professional achievement students develop a wide range of transferable skills in areas such as communication, team-working, problem-solving and computer literacy.
